Terry Plater's paintings have been described as contemporary art for the classic art lover. Grounding her work in the realist tradition, she values equally the craft and the history of painting. Her work is an intellectual and emotional record of her responses to people and places she encounters. Plater works primarily in oils and pastels ranging from 4" x 6" to 4' x 6.' Mostly self-trained, study at the Art Students League in NYC, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, the Fine Arts Work Center (Provincetown MA), and thé New York Academy of Art has been central to her artistic development. A member of the Art Students League and the National Association of Women in the Arts, Plater also teaches drawing and painting at all age and ability levels. Plater will be leading her fifth painting retreat to France, "for artists and art lovers," in Spring 2019.
